Public Speaking Course for Adults in Singapore
Public Speaking Course for Adults in Singapore
Speech Academy Asia’s public speaking course for adults teaches working professionals to present, lead and speak with confidence. It is a trainer-led, small-group course that covers nerves, body language, voice, speech structure and handling tough questions. Our graduates have gone on to win promotions, top sales awards and investor funding. Formats range from group classes to corporate workshops and 1-to-1 coaching.

The curriculum was developed by Speech Academy Asia’s founders, Kelvin Tan and Lukas Seet. Lukas is a certified NLP Master Practitioner who has trained people in public speaking and leadership since 2003. Kelvin is a master trainer and former competitive storyteller. Together, they built a proprietary, trademarked methodology for real-world presentations, meetings and interviews.
Speech Academy Asia has 15 branches across Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia and is a People’s Association-registered training provider. We have delivered public speaking training to organisations including NUS, NTU, Singapore Polytechnic, Nestle, Prudential, WWF and SPH. Looking for classes for children instead? What Will You Gain From This Public Speaking Course?
- Less public speaking anxiety: breathing, posture and mindset techniques that calm your body before and during a talk.
- Clearer communication: a simple structure for any presentation, update or pitch, so people follow your point.
- Leadership and influence: the ability to read your audience and adapt, so your message lands with bosses, teams and clients.
- Composure under pressure: frameworks for impromptu speaking and tough Q&A, so you sound prepared even when you are not.
What Happens in Your First Session?
You start with the Speech Limiters Test & Review. It identifies which of 12 common “speech limiters” hold you back, such as speaking up around people with more authority, fear of criticism, or avoiding disagreement. A trainer reviews the results with you one-on-one, so you leave session one with a personal starting point instead of a generic syllabus.
What Does Each Module Cover?
Public speaking is a learnable skill, not a fixed trait. The course breaks it into modules built on Speech Academy Asia’s proprietary, trademarked methodology.
1. Neuro Somatics™: managing nerves through the body
Neuro Somatics™ works on a simple idea: your emotions affect your body, and your body affects your emotions. You practise slow breathing to stop the shallow, fast breathing that feeds panic, power poses before you speak, and an upright posture that makes you look and feel more confident. You also learn to aim for growth in every speech rather than a perfect speech, which takes pressure off.
2. The B.E.S.T framework: the four parts of confident delivery
- Body language: eye contact (holding each person’s gaze for about 5 to 10 seconds and covering all four quadrants of the room), open hand gestures, posture and stance.
- Emotions: showing the right emotion at the right moment, using six basic emotions, so your audience trusts you.
- Sentence structure: phrasing and vocabulary that make your message clear and memorable.
- Tonality: volume, rhythm, pauses and pronunciation, so your voice carries and holds attention.
3. The I.P.A.D framework: structuring any speech
- Intrigue: open with a question or event that creates curiosity.
- Problem: describe the challenge in vivid detail so people feel it.
- Address: show the plan and the effort to solve it.
- Delight: end with a surprise, a happy moment or a punchline.
Stopping after Intrigue and Problem turns a speech into a complaint. I.P.A.D makes sure every talk moves to a resolution.
4. DISC: adapting to your audience
Different people want to be spoken to differently. You learn to spot and adapt to four DISC personality types:
- Dominant: want brief, results-focused answers. Skip the small talk.
- Influencer: enjoy discussion and stories. Invite them in rather than talking at them.
- Supporter: value harmony and reassurance. Show how your idea helps the team.
- Conscientious: want facts, data and clear process. Bring evidence.
5. Thinking on your feet
When you are put on the spot, stress floods the brain and clear thinking drops. You learn the PREP model (Point, Reason, Example, Point) for instant answers, plus alternatives such as Past, Present, Future for updates and Problem, Cause, Solution for issues. You also practise a deliberate pause before answering, which buys thinking time and signals confidence.
6. Presenting with impact and handling tough Q&A
You learn to design slides with action titles that state the takeaway, and to keep slides as visual support rather than notes. For Q&A, you practise staying calm under hostile questions, bridging back to your key message, and admitting what you do not know while committing to follow up.
7. Final speech and graduation
You deliver a final speech in front of the class. It is recorded, and your trainer reviews it with you individually to plan your next steps. You graduate with a certificate.
